Another busy day
The deep drilling had a successful day without any unexpected interruptions and drilling is back in two-shift mode. The science trench is speeding up and celebrated processing of bag 500 (275 m depth) where the ice is from around 100 years BC. The first Swiss 70m pilot hole was finished today and everything is ready to start drilling at the firn gas site tomorrow. In the garage, there is ongoing maintenance of the heavy vehicles. With all of the outdoor activities, we are crossing our fingers for the good weather to continue. To compensate for the high activity level, our cook, Sarah, is constantly preparing delicious meals, cakes and desserts, making it impossible for anyone to lose weight or get low in vitamins.
What we did today:
- Deep drilling core length 10.96 m
- Logging depth: 355.97 m
- Processing depth: 281.05 m
- Water isotopes depth: 224.40 m
- Testing bladder and getting ready for drilling at firn gas site
- Finished first 70 m pilot hole for Swiss RADIX casing
- Water vapour, methane, aerosols, snow and boundary layer measurements
- Setting up a third outhouse. Certified.
Weather: Thin overcast all day. Good outdoor working conditions. Temp. -6°C to -12°C. Wind: 2-12 kt from W.
