Snow blocks from the trenches
The weather and the clouds have been very beautiful the last days. On the picture the snow blocks cut in the trenches with chainsaw since July have been collected on the surface. There is probably 100 tons of snow blocks representing a significant part of our work in July. Some of the blocks have been shaped into a mega igloo – but the team gave up to finish it.
What we have done today:
- Removed the shallow/HT drill and logging table from the drill trench
- Moved the ice core recovery system into a Viessmann cabin in the drill trench
- Resampled snow surface profile in the clean snow area
- GPS and Drone mission
- Drilled a 11 m snow core for Cunde
- Cleaned and rearranged cargo on the surface
- Preparing missions and camp close down
Weather today: Blue sky. Temperatures -15 °C during night, -9 °C during the day and dropping to -24 °C in the evening. Wind 5 kn from W all day.
