Moving snow

Oliver is filling the buckets with fresh new snow

The most important tool of a glaciologist is a shovel. This statement has been proved again. Olivier is digging fresh new snow to bring down in the snow trenches – where we also have removed tons and tons of older snow. The new snow is used to pack around the beams we have placed in the floor for the ice core buffer shelves.

What we have done today:

1. Drilled and logged the EGRIP ice core
2. Worked on changing drill configuration
3. Resampled snow surface profile in the clean snow area
4. Set up shelve systems for ice core buffer
5. Made plastic curtains to keep the ice core buffer colder
6. Cleaned up in Mechanic garage
7. Prepared the first GPS and Drone mission

Ad 1: Logging depth: 108.73 m (8 runs (60-67), 11.69 m)
Ad 2: Steff and Trevor concluded that a wire was damaged in the cable termination. It will be remade tomorrow.

Weather today: Blue sky all day. Temperatures -15 °C during night and evening and up to -5 °C in the day. Wind 5 kn from SW night and evening increasing to 10 kn from SW during the day.
