Master defense at EGRIP

Monday 27th of June 2016

Kristian Højers Master Defense in the EGRIP dome.

A quite special day with a formal Master defense at EGRIP on the middle of the Greenland Ice Sheet. Kristian Højer gave a good presentation followed by questions from the censor Kerim, the supervisor Dorthe and the audience.

The hope for the satellite communication system has gone up and down today and we actually think we might make it.

The team will have a sleepless night working the hours before the skier arrive tomorrow to get the system up.

What we have done today:

1.      Kristian Højers Master Defense
2.      Worked on satellite communication system
3.      Resampled snow surface profile in the clean snow area
4.      Used cryo-eggs to measure temperature in the 60 m deep EGRIP S1
         borehole
5.      Worked on floor in drill trench
6.      Enjoyed the 2 sided trench
7.      Made plans for the Japanize sampling program
8.      Inventory on electrical cables and lamps

Weather today: Sunny all day. Temperature -14 °C last night increasing to
-7 °C in the afternoon and dropping to -13 late evening. Wind 8 kt from SW.

FL, Dorthe Dahl-Jensen
