Saturday night on a Thursday

Thursday 23th of June 2016

Niccolo, Trevor, Iben, and Dennis holding the deepest section of the S1 core from about 60 m depth (yesterday).

Due to Midsummer and expectations of a hectic weekend with several flights, we have moved Saturday night to today Thursday. Saturday will be a normal working day then.

The main activity in camp right now is packing and making ready for a major exchange over the weekend, where we expect new personnel and a lot of cargo.

If the flight missions are carried through as planned, we will go from 15 to 30 persons in camp over the weekend and then back to 15 persons from mid next week.

Among others, press people and experts in setting up the satellite receiver will visit us. Furthermore, most of the personnel in camp will be exchanged, so only Chris and Thomas will stay in camp until next flight period.

Kerim and Jan made a nice dinner with ice-core starter and myseost-ice dessert.

What we have done today:

1.    Started packing at Swiss drill test site
2.    Cleaned up at EGRIP 2016 S1 site and making HT-drill ready
3.    Resampled snow surface profile in the clean snow area
4.    Sampled AD 2012 melt layer for gas analysis
5.    Documented activities in clean snow area
6.    Trimmed the inclined trench
7.    Organized workshop in drill trench
8.    Celebrated Saturday night

Weather today: Beautiful sunny day with few high clouds. Temp. -19 °C during night increasing to -9 °C during the day. Wind 8-12 kt from W and SW.

FL, Anders Svensson
