First real Saturday evening at EGRIP

 Tuesday 2nd of May 2016

Excavation of a Flexmobile

Saturday evening is a special occasion. People try to finish their tasks at 1600 and then everybody take a shower and dress up for Saturday evening. We have had other Saturday evenings at EGRIP; but never before with running water.

Sarah, the cook, is off duty, as another of camp staff prepares a meal. This time it was Joel, who treated us with paella and crème caramel. It was a really nice evening, and we even inaugurated our new draft beer system. It features Greenlandic beer from “Godthåb Bryghus” (Nuuk Brewhouse). The brew was lovely, and we enjoyed some of it responsibly.

The dome appears much larger now that all food has been taken to the food tent, and several crew members have moved to the heated weatherports.

What we have done today:

  1. Repaired hydraulics on Flexmobil 1. Now ready.
  2. Joel was cook for Saturday night dinner.
  3. Mounted permanent cables for main dome.
  4. Cleaned out main dome. All food is now stored in food tent.
  5. Surveyed and marked excavation site for science trench and tunnels.
  6. Collected rubbish for rubbish pallet.

Ad.1: Several leaks were discovered in hydraulic hose at front blade and in hydraulic hose from pump to front. Hoses were exchanged.

Ad.3: Electric cables for main dome now placed alongside warm water lines.

Weather today: Sunny and clear. Temp. – 22°C to -30°C, Wind 7 kt from WSW.  Visibility: To horizon.
